Explosion-proof test includes two types of tests: Explosion Strength Test and Explosion and Fire Hazard Test.
In the former test, a test gas sample is injected into the container placed inside the flameproof electric equipment, and forced ignition is induced to confirm the tolerance of the container against explosive pressure.
In the latter test, a test gas is injected both inside and outside the container, and forced ignition is induced inside to confirm that the flame induced inside the container does not ignite the test gas outside.

IEC Standards (number of tests):
2A, 2B: Strength Test: 1 time, Explosion and Fire Hazard Test: 5 times
2C: Strength Text: 3 times, Explosion and Fire Hazard Test: 5 times
JIS Standards (number of tests):
d2, d3: Strength Test: 10 times, Explosion and Fire Hazard Test:15 times
* Hydrogen, ethylene, acetylene, or propane is used as the test gas.

2.Spark Ignition Test

2.Spark Ignition TestSpark Ignition Test

The Spark Ignition Test is carried out to confirm that an electric spark induced in the electric circuit constituting the intrinsically safe circuit is in no danger of igniting the explosive gas during the normal operation or in the event of accident of the intrinsically safe equipment or related intrinsically safe equipment.
* Hydrogen, ethylene, or propane is used as the test gas.

3.Impact Test

3.Impact TestImpact Test

This test is carried out to confirm the impact strength of the containers of various flameproof electric equipment against the impact induced by dropping a plumb bob (impact strength).

IEC Standards
Impact Energy (E)
Translucent Parts 2.4J
Containers and Others 7J
JIS Standards
Transparent Plate 200g/200cm

4.Temperature Test

4.Temperature TestTemperature Test

This test is carried out to determine the surface temperature of the inside and outside the containers of various flameproof electric equipment. A sample is placed inside the constant temperature/moisture test chamber in the normal manner, and the chamber temperature is increased to the maximum ambient temperature allowed for use of the equipment to confirm that the temperature does not exceed the limit of temperature rise in terms of rated frequency, rated voltage, and rated load.

5.Thermal Shock Test

This test is performed to confirm that the glass parts used for the protective lamp cover and the viewport of flameproof electric equipment resists thermal shock without sustaining damage.
The thermal shock strength is confirmed by placing a sample inside the constant temperature/moisture test chamber in the normal manner, increasing the chamber temperature up to the maximum surface temperature, injecting jet water of approximately 1mm in diameter at 10 ±5% , and by making a thermal impact.

6.Powder Dust Test

6.Powder Dust TestPowder Dust Test

This test is performed to confirm dustproof performance of containers against dust and grime. A sample is placed inside the test device in the normal manner, and talc of size that can go through a 200-mesh strainer is continually suspended around the sample at a 2kg/1m3 concentration, while the inner pressure of the container is maintained lower than the ambient pressure by only 200mmH2O (1.961Pa), and the test is performed for two hours or eight hours consecutively.
Test performance: IP6X
